Class overview:
English - All elements of study are intended to strengthen reading and writing skills and techniques, as well as enhance speech. We will explore different genres of reading and writing, as well as engage in various types and purposes of speaking. There will be heavy emphasis on writing proficiently. This is an extremely important component and one that I take and teach seriously. It is expected for students to use proper spelling, punctuation, capitalization, and structure in ALL of their writing. Students will also learn how to glean understanding, insight, and purpose from pieces of literature by closely examining the text in regards to language, style, tone, figurative language, indirect, and direct characterization.

My classroom is set up so that approximately 1/3 of a student's grade is from homework assignments, 1/3 from writing, and 1/3 from tests, projects, and quizzes. If a student turns in all required assignments on time and puts forth effort, he/she will receive a passing grade. It is when students fail to complete or turn in assignments that they can fail the class.
