Welcome to English 9 & 10
Cultivating a respectful and responsible culture
where students do the right thing and treat people right! Goal: Students will receive instruction guided by the state standards to prepare them for life beyond high school. Students will be equipped with tools, strategies, and knowledge of core elements of English in order to confidently enter the world after graduation. Reading, writing, and speaking well are all essential for future careers and interactions in the adult world. Philosophy of teaching - I believe students learn best by being actively engaged in lessons. It is essential to make connections to literature and understand the purpose of language, reading, and writing. |
In my classroom, I expect students to give me their best effort and to try. They do not have to be perfect or get all of the answers right. I want my students to understand that it is acceptable to make mistakes, but it is not acceptable to not try. In the words of Michael Jordan, "I can accept failure, everyone fails at something. But I can't accept not trying"
True learning comes from trial and error. I personally learn more from my mistakes than my successes.
